This world renowned work by Gainsborough first appeared in public in 1770 as “A Portrait of a Young Gentleman”, where it received acclaime, and by 1798 when it became one of the world’s most recognizable British paintings, it was being called “The Blue Boy” A Victorian favorite, it is said to portray a young Jonathon Buttall or nephew Gainsborough Dupont. The clothing pays homage to that of 17th century artist Anthony van Dyck’s day, Gainsborough’s favorite artist. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand exclusively for Design Toscano.
