Vintage Cococubs Tiny Tusks Elephant was manufactured in October of 1935, Catalogue No 652. He is a large hollow-cast figure with a substantial weight. Tiny Tusks is grey and is wearing red trousers and a red bow tie. He is in very good "played with" condition with most of the original paint intact. Cococubs were promotional figures issued by the British chocolate manufacturer Cadbury's. They were given free, for a limited number of years during the 1930s, in each tin of Cadbury's Cocoa, and promoted as "A toy in every tin". Designed by artist Ernest Aris, children's book illustrator, the set of 32 hollow-cast figures were made by Britains from 1934 to 1939 with the first 15 anthropomorphic creatures released in 1934.  The Grocery & Provision Merchant magazine wrote that the Cococubs were "One of the cleverest publicity schemes of the year. It is difficult to over-estimate the sales value of such a scheme." The Cococubs characters were so popular initially that Cadbury's ran out of both tins of cocoa and the figures within a few weeks, resulting in a delay in distribution for a couple of months.  "During the early 1930s Britains produced for Cadbury's a series of small animals to be given away in tins of cocoa. Each of the animals was given a name and the Cococubs Club was formed." as described in "British Toy Figures - 1900 to present - Norman Joplin" 1987.
